POSCO CEO to Lead Global Steel Body
POSCO CEO Lee Ku-taek was elected chairman of the International Iron & Steel Institute (IISI) at its 41st annual board of directors meeting held Sunday in Germany.
Prior to the recent recognition, the 61-year-old served as vice president of IISI _ one of the largest industry associations representing over 170 steel producers _ in 2005.
The world\'s fourth-largest steel maker has garnered attention with its latest next-generation, eco-friendly FINEX technology and innovative digital management.
``I\'m grateful to be given the opportunity to head the world\'s top steel organization like IISI,\'\' Lee said in his acceptance remarks. ``I will strive to establish cooperative ties among member firms and help the industry think of ways to strengthen new areas for steel demand.\'\'
Company officials said Lee\'s new leadership position is expected to boost the global profile of POSCO and expand its international influence.
Founded in 1967, IISI members produce around 70 percent of the world\'s steel.
