POSCO SSC turns down Chinese offers for HR and plate imports

It is reported that POSCO SSC decides not to purchase HRC and thick plate from Chinese steelmakers as for the high offer although it is short of some specs of steel products.
Last week, Chinese based Baotou Steel offered USD 535 per tonne CFR for cargos delivered in September and WISCO provided USD 555 per tonne CFR for its thick plate. Both of the prices are quite high for South Korean importers as the present market prices for imported HRC and thick plate only go at KRW 0.71 million per tonne and USD 0.68 million per tonne in South Korea less than China's quotations.
Insiders noted that besides, POSCO will restart some HR line and electric furnace so as to enlarge its supply volume.
